Brian Alderton

Last week I received the very sad news that Brian Alderton, who created the British Mole Catchers Register in 2006, had sadly passed away on 22nd June.

Brian will be remembered by me and many others as a very kind and wonderful man who spent many years teaching and passing onto others the skills of traditional mole catching. He was a wise and measured tutor and always made time for others.

I will miss the contact that we had a few times a year with a friendly chat, where he would share where he was travelling to next. Being an avid traveller, Brian told me he was nearing to having travelled 100 countries.

Brian put mole catching and a register of professional mole catchers firmly on the map of the World Wide Web, bringing people’s attention to our traditional craft.

My thoughts and prayers are for Brian’s family and his wonderful lady, Sue. If you wish to send a card of condolence, please send it to us and we will forward it to Sue.

God bless Brian; may he be resting in peace and watching us all from above.

– Louise Chapman, BA (Hons), PGCE, Head of the British Mole Catchers Register
