OLD MOLECATCHERS
Molecatchers of old had a
good life even if they spent most of the time working
away from home, they would travel from farm to farm or
estate to estate, to carry out their craft. The
customers would provide food and lodgings for the
molecatcher. And he would be paid for every mole caught,
he then sold the moleskins, which he had been paid to
trap to fur dealers.? Not a bad life Eh?
The Mole was celebrated
by the Jacobites because he was blamed for causing the
death of King William III in Feb 1702, whilst out riding
his horse threw him after stumbling over a molehill,
breaking his collar bone. Insisting that he return to
Kensington Palace which did little to help his
condition. After a few days his condition began to
deteriorate with a fever and he passed away on the 8th
March 1702, much to the delight of the Jacobites, who
toasted.....
